Blue Diamond Aim For Power Trip

Breeding and Racing - Tuesday, 10th November 2015

Trainer John McArdle has confirmed that impressive Flemington winner Power Trip (Hard Spun-Rada, by Royal Academy) will be aimed at the $1.5 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on 27 February.

The 2YO gelding made an auspicious debut when scoring a strong win in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival, and will now be set for Victoria's premier juvenile event.

"He came through the run super. In all honesty if there was another suitable race for him he'd have no dramas racing on," McArdle told Melbourne's Radio Sport National.

"But he has gone to the paddock. He will have about three weeks off and come back for the Blue Diamond races."

An offer of $400,000 was made to purchase Power Trip before he had even raced after a barrier trial victory in October, and McArdle said he had fielded several more enquiries after his eye-catching win on Saturday.

"We've had people making enquiries but at this stage he is at least going to run in the Blue Diamond Preview for the owners and we will go from there," he said.

"I've had plenty of good Group-winning 2YOs over the years and he would be right up there amongst them."
