Bounding To Be Kept Fresh

Co-trainer Peter Snowden says that top sprinting mare Bounding (Lonhro-Believe'n'succeed, by Exceed and Excel) is a superior horse when kept fresh and will space her runs in the future, reports Racing.com.

The Group 1-winning Kiwi-bred mare was outstanding when resuming with a 4-length win in the Group 3 Heath Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on 29 August, but failed to back up that performance when finishing a disappointing third as favourite in last weekend's Group 3 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill.

"It was a below-par run for sure," Snowden told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday.

"I was really happy with her when she returned back home from Melbourne, work has been great during the week...she just raced like a flat horse."

He added: "Going through her form I did notice that when I got her, her runs were always spaced. Reflecting on what she did on Saturday, she's probably just a really fresh filly and three or four weeks between runs would be ideal for her."

With that in mind, Snowden said the 5YO would spend three days in the paddock with a view to running in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 24 October.

"She won't be running in the Rupert Clarke, but we'll look more along the lines of the Manikato fresh, if I'm happy with her, or one of the sprint races during Melbourne Cup week," he said.
