On the eve of the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Sale, a golden opportunity has been added to the supplementary entries, in the form of a stakes-producing mare in foal to the highly sought-after Starspangledbanner.
The 2009 Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale in Melbourne saw Damian White take home just one mare. With none of her foals having raced and in foal to Henny Hughes, the proprietor of Damian White Bloodstock was confident he was on to a good thing.
“There was enough happening in the family, her grand-dam was a champion and there was plenty happening around her,” said White.
“She is aristocratic, has beautiful proportions, and throws exceptionally correct foals. She was going to be mine every day of the week,” White said.
Forward thinking paid off and it wasn’t long before the foal that had just been weaned from her grew into Darley’s Group 2 winner Free Wheeling (Ad Valorem) which showed enough talent to land a spot with Team Godolphin in the UAE.
Miss Carefree has now produced six winners from six foals to race, and is currently carrying an incredibly rare commodity, a foal by Starspangledbanner from a northern hemisphere-time cover.
Set to stand this season at Rosemont Stud for $44,000, multiple Group 1 winner and son of fellow Aussie-bred Royal Ascot hero Choisir, Starspangledbanner’s feats on the racetrack are still spine-tinglingly fresh in our memory.
Now, with only a handful of runners he is already producing champions across the world, including The Wow Signal (destined for Swettenham Stud in 2015), Anthem Alexander and Home of the Brave.
“The options for a foal like this are very broad in both hemispheres, be it to sell at Easter or Tattersalls, or race in either hemisphere,” added White.
The chance to secure this lucrative exciting prospect will be offered at the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Sale, to be held on 21, 22, 23 and 24 June at Inglis’ Oaklands Complex in Melbourne.
