Secret Admirer will aim to become the first horse since Might And Power to finish out of the placings in the Epsom Handicap and win the Caulfield Cup at their next start.
The mare’s trainer Grahame Begg said last Saturday’s fifth placing in the Randwick mile was exactly what he was looking for ahead of the $2.5 million Caulfield feature.
"They went too slow through the middle stages for a horse like her to be winning,” Begg said.
"She was one of the few horses to make up ground from back in the field and got held up a bit at the top of the straight.”
Might And Power finished eighth in the Epsom before his 7-1/2 length romp over Doriemus in the Caulfield Cup. Begg wasn’t likening his mare to Might And Power but said she had the right attributes to complete the same feat.
"She’s a clean-winded animal and going straight into the Caulfield Cup will suit her,” he said.
"She’s racing well and they tend to run Caulfield Cups pretty solidly throughout, which will suit her.”
