Cavalry Rose charges home in $250,000 Inglis Classic

A large field of 14 lined up for the 2012 running of the $250,000 Inglis Classic at Rosehill today, and it took a very smart debutant in Cavalry Rose to charge home over the top of the speedy Diamond Earth to score in the Inglis Race Series event.

CAVALRY ROSE ($85,000 2011 Classic, 2f Charge Forward-Albertson Rose) was readied for today’s 1200m feature with a four length 900m barrier trial win earlier in the month, and although the Gerald Ryan trained filly was green in the run she showed tremendous natural ability to take home the $150,000 winners cheque for connections.

““I was nearly tempted to trial her again as she’s only had one trial and Glyn [Schofield] thought she might have needed another trial, but she’s only a two-year-old filly and you don’t want to be trialling them four days before their debut race”, Gerald Ryan said after the victory.

“Half-way down the straight I was cursing, but on the line I was happy, she knuckled down really good and she’ll learn more about it, she’s a nice filly.

“It’s nice to win one of these for Triple Crown, we’ve tried the win this race the last couple of years and have run placings, so it’s good to win one for them”, Ryan added.

Gerald Ryan and Triple Crown Syndications combined last season with Inglis graduate Hot Snitzel to finish 4th in a $250,000 Inglis Race Series event before the colt was taken to Queensland where he won the Group Two BRC Sire’s Produce Stakes, and the team will be hoping today’s winner can also step up to stakes level in her next few starts.

Cavalry Rose was also the second winner of the $250,000 Inglis Classic for Triple Crown Syndications, who tasted victory in the race with Miss Independent (by Choisir) in 2008.

“We are absolutely rapt that, the race has been good for us, we won it Miss Independent a few years back”, said Triple Crown Syndications Chris Ward.

“Well done to Inglis for putting on such as great race for the owners.

“We’ve got a mixture of owners [in Cavalry Rose] from all across the country and most have ventured out here today, we’ve got some first timers and some experienced ones that have been with us for a number of years now”, Ward added.

Bred by Grant Briscoe, Cavalry Rose was sold from the draft of Widden Stud at last year’s Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale to Triple Crown Syndications for $85,000.

Widden Stud have an enviable record of selling top class horses at Classic, such as Group One winners Whobegotyou, Typhoon Zed and Triple Honour, and the Widden Valley stud have been busily parading 39 yearlings at Newmarket the last few days in preparation for the start of the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale at 1pm tomorrow.

All people interested in buying their first racehorse or seeking more information on what to look for when selecting an yearling are invited to attend Inglis’ New Buyers Forum at Newmarket at 10am tomorrow morning.

This year’s Classic Sale will be held over three days from Sunday January 22 to Tuesday January 24, with the online catalogue available at ww.inglis.com.au

The sale will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day live, with Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer available for those buyers unable to attend the Newmarket complex during Classic.

Regular updates direct from the sale ring will also be posted via @Inglis_Sales on Twitter and photos will be made available on Inglis’ Facebook page InglisBloodstock
