“This was only the entrée. Two weeks’ time is what she’s been set for.’’
Trainer Chris Waller wasn’t mincing his words after one of his newest stable acquisitions C’est Magique (Zoustar) scored a powerful win in today’s G2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm.
C’est Magique has only been with Waller for five weeks, joining the stable after Coolmore paid $1.7m for her at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale last month and transferred her to the leading horseman.
The valuable 4YO had previously been trained by Grahame Begg in Victoria but today it was Waller and Coolmore who were the beneficiaries of the talented mare’s first Group victory.
“Grahame did a wonderful job with her and Coolmore purchased the horse and entrusted our team to train her so we’re just taking over,’’ Waller said.
“I spoke to Grahame before the race and she’s a lovely mare…she was just too good.
“She’s only been in our stable since the [Chairman’s] Sale five or six weeks ago. She arrived to us in great condition, I can’t take any of the credit. She’s got some good form and is obviously a talented horse.’’
Coolmore’s Tom Magnier added: “C’est Magique was presented at the Chairman’s Sale in immaculate condition, which is a great credit to Grahame Begg and his team.
“She’s a beautiful mare and he laid the foundation for her success.
“It’s a great thrill for all the partners to take out the Dane Ripper Stakes on Stradbroke Day, all of whom are involved in our extremely exciting young sire Shinzo who we were lucky enough to purchase in utero from the Chairman’s Sale a few years earlier.’’
C’est Magique (pictured) firmed into an $8 equal-second favourite with Ladbrokes for the G1 Tatt’s Tiara, which will be run at Eagle Farm on June 29.
C’est Magique was one of four Inglis graduates to win Stakes races on the big Eagle Farm program today.
Untapped 2YO Megastar Heart (Star Turn) landed some big bets to score a popular win in the Listed Oxlade Stakes.
The Annabel Neasham-trained juvenile endured a tough run, with jockey James McDonald unable to settle any closer than three horses off the fence for the duration of the race.
But it didn’t stop the talented colt from recording a tenacious victory – the second of his career from just four starts – after being backed from $6.50 to start a $3.20 favourite with Ladbrokes.
Megastar Heart is a $120,000 Classic Yearling Sale purchase for Solari Bloodstock, from the draft of his breeder Fairview Park Stud.
The feature 2YO race on today’s program was won impressively by the Godolphin star Broadsiding in the G1 JJ Atkins Stakes.
The race was the final 2YO G1 of the Australian season and with all five juvenile G1s - Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper, Inglis Sires, Champagne Stakes and JJ Atkins - now run and won, Inglis again becomes the only Australian auction house to sell a G1-winning 2YO this season.
Easter colt Bases Loaded (Deep Field) scored a dominant all-the-way win in the G3 Gunsynd Classic.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 3YO mixed it with the best at the top level as a juvenile, running 2nd to Militarize in the G1 Champagne Stakes at just his fifth start.
He has trained on as a quality 3YO, winning today’s race with ease.
Bred by Sally Watkins of Willaroon Thoroughbreds, Bases Loaded is a $400,000 Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Newgate Farm, China Horse Club and Starlight, from the Tyreel Stud draft.
He was initially a $290,000 Great Southern Sale weanling graduate of Rushton Park.
Willaroon Thoroughbreds offered Bases Loaded’s Written Tycoon half sister at the recent Australian Weanling Sale, where she was purchased by Kaha Nui Farm and Lyndhurst Farm for $350,000.
And Alegron (Teofilo) became the latest Inglis Digital Stakes winner when scoring a last-to-first win in the G2 Brisbane Cup.
Alegron was offered as lot 1 as part of a Godolphin online draft last November, where Bjorn Baker purchased him for just $40,000.
He has since raced four times and earned $260,000 in prizemoney and is being aimed toward this year’s G1 Melbourne Cup.
Entries for the Inglis Digital June (Late) Sale are now open and will remain so until midnight Wednesday, or until the catalogue ‘fills’ at 540 entries.
