Chairman's entries closing soon

Entries for the Inglis Chairman’s Sale – the most prestigious breeding stock sale in the Southern Hemisphere – are closing soon.

In its short history, The Chairman’s Sale has developed into one of the most significant bloodstock auctions on the global sales calendar.

Its unique structure – a select catalogue of the best race fillies and breeding stock of the year, offered for sale under lights as part of a twilight ‘cocktail party’ at Riverside – has seen vendors rewarded with countless extraordinary results in recent years.

Last year alone the sale grossed in excess of $54m and cleared 87%, with the top 50% of lots sold averaging a staggering $1,160,385. To put that into context, the top 50% of lots sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale averaged over 60% less at $451,189.

In 2025 fillies and mares off the track at The Chairman’s Sale averaged a staggering $879,222.

Highlight results at The Chairman’s Sale in recent years include the likes of Bella Nipotina ($4.2m) and Amelia’s Jewel ($3.8m) – both from last year’s auction – as well as Nimalee ($3.6m), Montefilia ($3.4m), She’s Extreme ($3.4m), Tutta La Vita ($3.2m), Estriella ($2.8m), Tiz Invincible ($2.8m), Shout The Bar ($2.7m), Celebrity Queen ($2.5m), Too Darn Lizzie ($2.4m), Icebath ($2.3m), Maastricht ($2.25m), Kimochi ($2.2m), In Her Time ($2.2m), I Am Me ($2m), Srikandi ($2m) etc.

This year’s format will mirror that of recent years – a late afternoon start at Riverside on Thursday May 7 with a ‘Where Elegance Meets Excellence’ theme.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch noted the momentum behind The Chairman’s Sale and encouraged owners and breeders to strongly consider the Chairman’s Sale for their stock this year.

“At the end of the day The Inglis Chairman’s Sale is the only broodmare sale in Australia that is growing. Since 2021, for example, the Chairman’s Sale gross has doubled while the National Broodmare Sale has fallen more than $53.7m,’’ Hutch said.

“Our clients understand now just how special and unique The Chairman’s Sale is, not only as a horse sale but as an event and as an opportunity to celebrate these amazing mares and in the case of retiring race fillies, give them the showcase that they deserve.

“It is a very enjoyable night, that brings together a party atmosphere but also the serious business of acquiring quality stock.

“The work that goes into promoting the sale and in particular, the presentation of the catalogue, is a world-wide industry standard – the level of detail is unparalleled – and this has been a big factor in us not only growing the sale but also delivering incredible results for vendors.

“At this stage, there doesn’t look like being the depth of quality offered to the market as in previous years amongst the retiring mares, but we know the demand is there, so there is a real opportunity for owners of quality two, three and four-year-old race fillies and mares to capitalise on an incredibly lucrative market at The Chairman’s Sale.”
