Santa Ana Lane today became Australian racing’s latest $1million superstar with a devastating win in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville.
A lightly-raced 5YO, it was the second Group 1 success for Santa Ana Lane (Lope de Vega x Fast Fleet) following his Rupert Clarke success in the spring.
It took his prizemoney to $1,277,700, a whole lot more than the $80,000 Flemington Bloodstock paid for him at the 2014 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Rosemont Stud on behalf of Dyson Hore-Lacy.
“While we love watching our Rosemont colours enjoy success it’s also a huge thrill when our clients get any form of success too, let alone a Group 1, so this is a great result for Dyson especially and the owners,’’ Rosemont’s Stud Anthony Mithen said.
“This horse was bred and raised on the farm and has been an absolute beauty on the track.
“To win two Group 1 races, $1million in prizemoney and know there’s plenty more ahead, it’s certainly a proud day for Rosemont.’’
Meanwhile Marcel From Madrid (Sepoy) and Land Of Plenty (Stratum) also enjoyed Stakes success on the big Morphettville program.
The 2YO Marcel From Madrid kept his unbeaten run intact, demolishing the field in the Group 3 National Stakes at just his second career start.
The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained juvenile was a $58,000 buy for Pacific Bloodstock at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Widden Stud.
Marcel From Madrid was bred by Robert Anderson and has already won $140,000 prizemoney.
And Land Of Plenty gained valuable black-type when winning the Group 3 RA Lee Stakes, his third win from his past four starts.
The entire was twice offered through an Inglis sale ring.
As a yearling the Esplin Family-bred youngster was bought by Shane Nichols Racing from Twin Palms Stud at the 2015 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
A 30% share of him was then offered at The Chairman’s Sale Racing Prospects last year by Grandlodge Thoroughbreds, which was purchased by Northern Lodge’s Clive Smith.
