Christmas Comes Early To Newmarket

A record price for a yearling at a mixed sale was achieved today when Lot 118, an Encosta de Lago colt out of the Danehill (USA) mare Cashier sold for $520,000. At the fall of the hammer, the half-brother to Gr 2 winner Flying Pegasus who has also been accepted for the 2007 Easter Yearling Sale went the way of the Western Australian based Wyllie Group.

Lot 119, the very next offering through the ring was another standout Encosta de Lago filly. Out of the winning Zabeel (NZ) mare Curvaceous, the colt will also be heading to Western Australia after being purchased for $200,000 by Mr Craig Coleman.

Earlier in the day Sydney based bloodstock agent, David Lamond outlayed $285,000 for Zabeel (NZ) mare Zaloot (NZ). A half-sister to the recorded price Encosta de Lago colt, the mare went through the ring with a strapping Galileo (IRE) filly at foot, and a positive 37 day test to Arrowfield’s multiple Group 1 winner, Starcraft (NZ).

Mr Jim Fleming’s Tyreel Stud offered Lot 181, the unraced 2YO Royal Academy filly Bound. From a black-type laden pedigree, the filly that is closely related to Champion 2YO Fashions Afield went to the final bid of Ramsey Pastoral Pty Ltd for $180,000.

Managing Director Reg Inglis was delighted with the results, stating “That the final sale of the year was very strong, with extremely good prices achieved, which all agures well for the sale season next year”

A large catalogue of over 330 horses saw a significant increase in all categories from last year sale. The excellent clearance rate of 91% helped to realise a record gross receipt of $2,374,050 with an average of $9,690.
