Classic Juveniles Build on Sales Tradition

24th Jan 2007

Choisir, Silent Witness, Bel Esprit, God’s Own, Ike’s Dream, County Tyrone, In Top Swing, Court Command and Natural Destiny, only the tip of a very large iceberg of William Inglis & Son Classic Yearling Sale graduates. And if you had a budget spanning from $10,000 to $220,000 you could have owned one of these.

The field is taking shape for the 2007 Inglis Classic Race, to be staged at Royal Randwick on February 10. Carrying a purse of $500,000 it is Sydney’s richest event for two-year-olds outside of the Golden Slipper. Realisations can be made that graduates from last year’s sale look set to continue the Classic Sale’s reputation for producing topliners at affordable prices.

The race should prove a great form reference for the major Autumn 2Y0 races, based on current results to date. Leading contender Danehill Smile, a $50,000 purchase from last years sale, has already won over double her purchase price from two wins in as many starts, including a last start victory in the Listed AJC Canonbury Stakes and a victory over Mimi Lebrock prior to that.

The Danehill Dancer (IRE) filly has had a healthy injection to her earnings thanks to a $20,000 BOBS bonus earned at her racetrack debut as have other race rivals Aquatic King and Lieserl. The overwhelming support from breeders for Racing NSW’s lucrative scheme will see an astonishing 83% of horses catalogued for the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale being BOBS eligible.

There will also be strong representation from the unbeaten brigade of interstate visitors. Frosty, a short priced winner on debut at Eagle Farm, is Sydney bound early next week. While the Lee Freedman pair of Spring Drinks and Ntini have been sent north from their Rye base to round off their preparations this weekend. Spring Drinks will start in Listed Widden Stakes at Royal Randwick on Australia Day, setting up a clash with fellow Classic graduate Goldam, resuming from a debut win at Royal Randwick in October.

Leading bloodstock agent Jon Freyer, a perennial purchaser from the Inglis Classic Sale feels that, “The Classic Sale represents the best value for money of any sale in Australasia. There is always a top horse in the catalogue and historically they don’t cost an arm and a leg. We were fortunate enough to have bought the 2005 Classic winner Paulini for $47,500. At the same sale one could have purchased God’s Own or Carry On Cutie, two major Group 1 winners. Rest assured they will be there again in 2007, it’s just a matter of doing the leg work and being prepared to pay a modest premium for ‘best horse in the sale’.”

Recent stakes performers Anwaar and Chaud Roche as well as metropolitan winners Mystery City, Master Magic, Montana Sunset, King’s First, Strat’s Flyer, Blue Tears and the unbeaten Happy Finish, clearly demonstrate what an exceptional sale the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is for producing results at prices that are within the grasp of all buyers.

With the sale catering to buyers on all levels, and the future 2008 Inglis Classic Race winner amongst them, attending the 2007 Inglis Classis Yearling Sale is a must.
