The Classic Session of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale got off to a solid start in Sydney today with the theme being great value for money buying.
The Classic sale, which has a reputation for producing high-class gallopers at value prices, continued to offer that opportunity today, with 87 horses selling for a gross of $2.6million at an average of $29,300.
“This sale has always been one where buyers know they can secure a good quality racehorse without having to pay a fortune and that was again evident today,” William Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
“We had a strong domestic buying bench in attendance and there was good competition right from the start evidenced by an excellent clearance rate of 81.5%.
“This should continue over the next two days, as most of Australia’s top sires are represented and buyers realise this is a great chance to secure progeny by them.”
Alanbridge Stud stallion Beautiful Crown was the leading sire in the first session, with his progeny including the day’s sale topper, an Emirates Park offered colt from Boom Boom Baby, which was secured by Vin Cox Bloodstock for $90,000.
Sire of the moment More Than Ready was the second leading sire of the session, with three lots selling for $175,000, with Vin Cox among the buyers of his progeny as well.
“You only have to look at the results from yesterday’s meeting at Randwick, where we had Triple Honour winning the Doncaster and Raise putting herself in the Oaks picture for Wednesday, to understand why this sale is regarded as perhaps the best value for money auction in the country,” Webster said.
“Those horses along with other such as Galaxy winner Typhoon Zed and leading two-year-old Over The Wicket emerge from Classic year-in year-out and this year shouldn’t be any different.
Eight unique online bidders contributed to the pleasing clearance rate, with 2 eventually being knocked down to online buyers include one from Singapore. Those looking to register for the remainder of the sale can do so by going to www.inglis.com.au.
The Classic Session continues from 11am tomorrow and concludes with the third session on Tuesday.
