CLASSIC YEARLING CATALOGUE NOW ONLINE

26th Feb 2008

The catalogue for this year’s Classic Yearling Sale is now online and the timing could not be more appropriate following the brilliant victory of Sarthemare, a $12,000 Classic purchase last year, in last Sunday’s AAMI Black Opal Stakes (Listed) at Canberra.

The timing of this year’s sale is different to previous years due to the disruption caused by equine influenza. The 533 lots catalogued will be offered over three days commencing at 3pm on Sunday April 27, following select sessions of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale from April 20 - 24 and Derby/Doncaster Day at Royal Randwick on April 26.

The majority of Australia’s leading sires are represented by athletic individuals including Encosta de Lago, Danehill Dancer, Royal Academy, Catbird, General Nediym, Flying Spur, Hussonet, Commands, More Than Ready, Secret Savings, Rock Of Gibraltar, Elusive Quality, Danzero, Show A Heart, Anabaa and Tale Of The Cat. Up and coming stars including Exceed And Excel, Bel Esprit, Choisir, Lonhro, Dubai Destination, Dash For Cash and Fantastic Light are also well represented. There are many yearlings by popular first season sires including Lion Heart, Al Maher, Savabeel, Elvstroem, Not A Single Doubt, Refuse To Bend, Sharmardal, Dane Shadow and Fastnet Rock.

All sale graduates are eligible for the 2009 Inglis Classic race that is now part of the NEW $2.5 million Inglis graduates series encompassing 20 races in total commencing on Cox Plate Day day in October 2008 with the inaugural running of the $250,000 Inglis Juvenile.

The Black Opal winner Sarthemare and runner up Typhoon Fury as well as Over The Wicket are emerging as leading contenders at this stage for the 2008 Inglis Classic, to be run this year on May 3rd at Royal Randwick - Sydney Cup day. The $500,000 event for juveniles paid up from the 2007 Inglis Classic Sale will still be run over 1200 metres with colts to carry 56.5 kg and fillies 54.5kg.

“The Classic sale is well known as a type sale and has a great history of producing winners from all price brackets. The quality of the 2008 offering suggests that there will be many more to come.” said William Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster. “This year’s graduates will have an added incentive with The Inglis Race Series offering lucrative $50,000 and $100,000 bonuses throughout NSW, ACT and Victoria, in addition to a number of $250,000 graduate races. Instead of just one chance of winning a big race, Inglis graduates will have opportunities throughout their 2YO and 3YO seasons when they are fit and performing at their best. The trainer who wins the most number of races in the Inglis series each year will also win a $50,000 bonus.”

The Classic catalogue is available online at www.inglis.com.au and will be arriving in letter boxes this week.
