Classy Racehorses Attract Strong Interest in Melbourne

Stakes performed entires Keano and Raffaello were the star lots at today’s Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale in Melbourne.

A total of 197 lots were sold for $1,343,700 during today’s sale at an excellent clearance rate of 92 per cent. Almost 50 per cent of all lots today attracted an online bid.

The six times winner Keano topped proceedings, selling to Anderson Bloodstock for $92,000. The five-year-old son of Pins landed his most recent win on the final day of last year’s Melbourne Cup carnival. He was also a Listed winner earlier in his career.

Encosta De Lago six-year-old entire Raffaello fetched $85,000. The winner of nine races was Group 1 placed in the 2009 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Lucky Thunder, a son of Lucky Owners, was sold for $46,000 today. The two times winner was Group 3 placed in the Carbine Club Stakes and Group 2 placed in the Sandown Guineas in the spring of his three-year-old season.

“We’re obviously very pleased with today’s trading. Any sale with a 92% clearance rate is reflective of vendor satisfaction,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“It was good to see those classy stakes performed horses attract the prices they did.”

Horses passed in during today’s session are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

The next sale at Oaklands is the Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale on April 17 and 18.

Entries are now open for the 2011 Great Southern Sale, which will be held at Oaklands from May 17-20.
