Clearance Rises to 90% as Melbourne Sale Concludes

Highlighted by a 94% clearance and a big crowd in attendance at the Oaklands complex, the Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale drew to a close this evening, with almost $3million traded across the two days.

More than $1.6million was traded today, with 232 racehorses and breeding prospects sold to a wide buying bench.

"We had a very big crowd in attendance and there was spirited competition on all lots that had either shown some race ability or shaped as potential breeding prospects," Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

"Once again race fillies off the track were in demand, but it was good to also see racing prospects so keenly sought after.

"Today's clearance rate resulted in a 90% clearance for the two days and it was one of the strongest sales we have conducted for some time."

Top price today was $70,000 paid by Kevin Dagg Bloodstock for Wood Nook Farm's unraced Encosta De Lago filly Darkling, who is a daughter of Centaine's G1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes winner Sixty Seconds.

Testa Rossa mare Donna Rossa, a five times winner who is an acceptor for tomorrow's Caulfield meeting, sold to Baramul Stud for $55,000.

All horses passed in over the past two days are still available for sale via the Make an Offer Service.

The next sale to be conducted by Inglis is the Scone Broodmare Sale, which will be held on Friday, August 28.
