Comeback galloper Chase The Rainbow bound for Caulfield Cup for trainer Rick Hore-Lacy

RICK Hore-Lacy is hoping comeback galloper Chase The Rainbow could be Caulfield Cup bound after his brilliant win in the National Jockeys' Celebration Day Plate at Caulfield yesterday.

Chase The Rainbow hadn't run since finishing seventh in the Caulfield Guineas last October, but Hore-Lacy was confident he would run well.

"It's the first time I've ever had him right. He'd done a lot of work going into this and it's just great he's comeback like this," he said.

Hore-Lacy said he thought Chase The Rainbow, who started at $7.50, was a moral in running in the 1400m race.

"The good aspect of that win is that he has never been that close in the run before," he said.

Hore-Lacy will take Chase The Rainbow back to the scene of his biggest win, the Group 2 Stutt Stakes, for his next start in the $300,000 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 15.

"I'll aim him for the Caulfield Cup as I think he's good enough for a race like that," he said.

Chase The Rainbow, ridden by Craig Williams, defeated Dusty Star ($4.20 fav) by 3 1/4 lengths, with Spacecraft ($21) 1/2 length away third.

On the day it was announced star three-year-old filly Samaready would miss the spring after not coming up, her owners, the Vinery Stud Syndicate, managed to win the Slickpix Stakes with Cuban Sunday.

Cuban Sunday only joined the Pat Carey stables at Mornington this campaign and yesterday was his fourth run for him.

"They just sent him down to me for a change of scenery. I'm pleased to get a horse like him as he came to me in good order," Carey said.

He said Cuban Sunday was entered for the Caulfield Cup.

"I'll just keep putting him in handicaps and we'll see how far he'll take us," Carey said.

He said AJC Derby winner Ethiopia would resume in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes, where he will come up against Chase The Rainbow.

Cuban Sunday was the second leg of a winning longshot double for in-form Michael Walker, who said he followed Carey's instructions.

"He just told me to go back and get a good spot if I could from the outside barrier," Walker said.

He settled Cuban Sunday last on the fence and stayed there until 600m to go before finding gaps through the field.

Walker then drove Cuban Sunday ($26) through to win by a neck over Ebony Rock ($61), with Streets Away ($7.50) a length away third.

Walker's other winner was Lady Of Harrods, who started at $26 in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes.
