This weekend’s Scone Cup meeting is the nation’s richest country carnival.

The Scone Racing Club is offering nearly $2 million prizemoney for the Friday Cup meeting and the Saturday stand-alone fixture.

The highlight of Friday’s eight-race meeting is the Group 3 $200,000 Scone Cup.

It usually attracts a crowd of more than 10,000 as the Scone township comes to a standstill for the big race.

Scone’s stand-alone Saturday meeting features five stakes races on the eight-event program.

These are the Group 3 $200,000 Dark Jewel Classic and the Ortensia Stakes, Denise’s Joy Stakes, Woodland Stakes and Luskin Star Stakes, all Listed races worth $140,000 each.

To complement the program is the $400,000 Inglis Guineas, a race restricted to three-year-olds nominated for the Inglis Race Series.

“This carnival is really attracting a lot of national and international attention with its stand-alone metropolitan status for the two days,’’ Scone Race Club chief executive Sarah Wills said.
