Gun young Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore plans on keeping an astounding $2.5 million bonus alive this season with his brilliant two-year-old, Crack A Roadie.
Theodore will also take an unusual path with Crack A Roadie to the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 23.
He will not contest either the Blue Diamond Previews on January 26 or the Preludes on February 9, instead making his way to the Diamond via the $250,000 Inglis Premier at Mornington on February 13.
“He won a jump-out here at Cranbourne yesterday very easily and showed us he was on track,” Theodore told racingnetwork this morning.
“Craig Williams came down to ride him and he was thrilled with how he went.
"He said the horse felt terrific and we were in for a good prep,” he added.
He confirmed Crack A Roadie would run in the Inglis Premier before heading to the Blue Diamond.
“He’ll have a three-run preparation starting with the Inglis Premier on February 13, then the Blue Diamond before the Sires Produce,” Thoedore explained.
He said the Sires Produce was the second leg of a unique Inglis-sponsored bonus worth a whopping $2.5 million.
To win the bonus a horse must win the Inglis sponsored two-year-old race on Cox Plate day, which Crack A Roadie already has(pictured), then either the NSW or the Victorian Sires Produce, then the Scone Guineas as a three-year-old.
“$1.7 million goes to the owners and the rest to the trainer and jockey, so I’m happy to still be in it and in the situation we find ourselves right now,” Theodore said.
