Trainer Luca Cumani (pictured) has confirmed last year’s Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) runner-up Bauer is again Melbourne bound and will commence his Cups campaign next month.
The stallion hasn’t raced since his nose second behind Viewed in last year’s Cup and will be set for a light European campaign.
“Bauer will travel to Australia to run in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on 17 October and the Melbourne Cup on 3 November,” Cumani said.
“Bauer is very well and was given a long holiday and is just starting to get going now. He will have his first run in July and his whole year is being aimed with one race in mind; the Cup.”
Cumani has endured a frustrating run in Melbourne over the past two springs.
While Bauer gave him his first Aussie triumph in last years’ Geelong Cup before his Cup near miss, Mad Rush was a desperately unlucky fourth in last year’s Caulfield Cup. This followed Purple Moon’s gallant second behind Efficient in the Melbourne Cup in 2007.
