The rags to riches stories in the Inglis Race Series keep coming, with $6500 purchase Alcancia landing the prize in today’s Sportsman Inglis Challenge at Scone.
It also gave veteran jockey Robert Thompson a welcome birthday present, although he wouldn’t disclose his age following the win.
Port Macquarie trainer Jenny Graham picked the daughter of Danbird out of the Dengari Lodge draft at last year’s Scone Yearling Sale.
The filly had already won twice her purchase price prior to today, but this win propelled Alstancia beyond the $100,000 mark.
"We were back travelling midfield and no closer than three wide,” Thompson said.
"She did travel well but when I let her down at the 300m she showed a good turn of foot.”
The Mack Griffith-trained Final Conflict ran second, with Mystery Flight from the Bill Farrow stable holding down third
The Scone carnival continues tomorrow, with the highlight being the $250,000 Inglis Guineas.
