Bart Cummings notched up an amazing 260th Group One win when Dariana put aside her dramas from last week to outdistance her rivals in the Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The Redoute's Choice filly was only given permission to start in the Derby after a jumpout in front of stewards during the week after she stayed in the barriers and took no part in last Saturday's Queensland Oaks for which she was favourite.
It was a different matter seven days later as Michael Rodd jumped her cleanly from barrier one in the 2400m Derby and let her settle midfield.
Rodd improved his position throughout and produced Dariana at exactly the right time in the straight where the favourite Kutchinsky was also making his move.
Dariana quickly swept to the front and gave nothing else a chance in the run home, careering away from Kutchinsky with Oaks winner Miss Keepsake running home strongly for third.
Offered for sale by Coolmore Stud, DARIANA was knocked down to Duncan Ramage at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000.
