Debut Win for Nayeli

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 8 January 2014

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse won a Golden Slipper with a Corumbene Stud bred son of More Than Ready (USA) in Sebring and now she’d like to win a Blue Diamond with a Corumbene Stud bred filly by the same sire.

Nayeli as a yearlingNayeli as a yearlingMaking her debut at Randwick on Wednesday, two year-old filly Nayeli strode clear to win the 1000 metre juvenile fillies maiden, coming from off the pace to beat what looked a smart field on paper to win by two lengths.

"She’s a very nice filly that really extended over that last furlong,” said stable representative Mark Newnham.

"The best part of her race was the last hundred metres.

"She may head to Melbourne now for a crack at the Blue Diamond.”

A $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock from the Corumbene Stud draft, Nayeli runs in the colours made famous by Pierro and is owned by Greg and Donna Kolivos.

Nayeli is a half-sister to stakes-placed Brightest and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from stakes-placed Wasimah, a daughter of Group I winner Kapchat.
