This month we are delighted to recognise the achievements of

NATURAL DESTINY

Breeding: 4yo entire by Naturalism (NZ) ex Force Of Destiny, by Archregent (CAN)
Vendor: Meringo Stud Farm
Owners: Mr B. H. & Mrs R. Dorricott and Mr R. J. & Mrs C. Y. Cruwys
Trainer: G. Yorke

$10,000, that’s all it took to secure the latest racetrack sensation, the flashy grey Natural Destiny. Purchased from the Inglis Classic Sale ring in 2004 by Pimpala Park and now trained at Coffs Harbour by Gordon Yorke, Natural Destiny has an impressive record of ten wins from 13 starts, resulting in a winning ratio of over 76%.

With an average winning margin of over 2¼ lengths from his ten victories, Natural Destiny has really come of age in his last handful of starts. Always showing immense potential, it was his last four wins, all in stakes company, that showed racing fans that this horse is the real deal.

Bred at Tony Hartnell’s Meringo Stud Farm on NSW’s South Coast, incidentally the same property as Global Sprint Champion Takeover Target was raised on, Natural Destiny appears to have an affinity for racing in Queensland. Having started in the sunshine state on four occasions, all stakes races, and all resulting the same way - with Natural Destiny demoralising his opposition.

The first came in June last year, where after an impressive first up 4 length win at Randwick, Gordon Yorke decided to send his up and comer to contest the Group 3 W.J. Healey Stakes at Eagle Farm. Ridden by Michael Rodd, Natural Destiny scored by an authoritive 2¼ lengths from the stakes winning pair of Starlactic and Black Ink.

A 19 week spell followed the Group 3 victory with Natural Destiny then being set for a first up tilt at the Group 1 Salinger Stakes at Flemington over Melbourne Cup week. After two scintillating trials, scoring by 10 and 8 lengths respectively, Glen Boss took the reins and Natural Destiny showed with his fifth placing to multiple Group 1 winner Dance Hero, that he is more than capable of mixing it with the best sprinters in the land.

Having a month freshen up, Natural Destiny was sent back to Queensland where his target was the Doomben Summer Triple Crown. Given the ‘visitors draw’ in the first leg, the Group 3 Summer Stakes (1200m), Natural Destiny showed blistering speed to cross the field and lead comfortably, before going on to win by ¾ length.

Starting at prohibitive odds in the second leg, the Listed Doomben Stakes (1350m), Natural Destiny produced a herculean effort to win the race by 3¼ lengths stopping the clock at 1 min 17.09 sec, smashing the race record which was recorded the year before by international globe trotter Takeover Target and breaking the track record set by multiple Group 1 winner and dual Hong Kong Sprint victor, Falvelon.

Starting once again at short odds in the final leg, the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m), Natural Destiny strolled in by 3 lengths, becoming the first horse in history to complete the Doomben Summer Triple Crown.

Natural Destiny will now be spelled and set for the long term goal of the Group 1 W.S. Cox Plate next spring. With trainer Gordon Yorke feeling that, “He’s only half a horse at the moment. He will grow a lot and get much stronger during his break”. We wait with anticipation to see what lies ahead for the impressive Natural Destiny.

William Inglis & Son would like to congratulate the connections of Natural Destiny and wish them the best of luck for his up coming assignment and future racing career. We look forward to following the career of Natural Destiny in the coming years.
