Delago Reaps $100,000 Bonus

Delago Bolt repaid his purchase price three times over and rewarded some shrewd planning on the part of Gary Portelli when scoring an impressive win in the Golden Slipper Festival Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill today.

DELAGO BOLT ($50,000 2008 Premier, 2c Delago Brom-Bardego) will now be aimed at better races after becoming the first horse to earn a metropolitan bonus in the $2.5million Inglis Race Series.

Delago Bolt picked up the $100,000 bonus on offer in today's race, in addition to the $42,000 first prizemoney.

Trainer Gary Portelli had the option of running Delago Bolt last week, but elected to wait an additional seven days and aim up at the rich prizemoney on offer today.

The decision was rewarded with the youngster sitting outside the lead and then proving too strong in the run to the line. The next bonus on offer will be $50,000 for the 2YO event at the Mornington Cup meeting on February 18.

The $250,000 Inglis Premier will be run on February 28 for Melbourne Premier graduates, before another $100,000 bonus goes on the line for paid up horses at Moonee Valley on April 3.

Earlier, TELL A TALE ($40,000 2007 Classic, 3g Tale Of The Cat-Cheeky Veronica) went within a whisker of adding to the Inglic Classic Sale's Group 1 record this season when going down by a half head in the G1 Whakanui Stud International Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa.

The son of Tale Of The Cat is one of three Group 1 winners for the Classic Sale this season, joining Typhoon Zed and Whobegotyou as top level winners when taking November's G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

The 2009 Classic Sale begins at Newmarket at the re-scheduled time of 4.30pm tomorrow afternoon and runs through Monday and Tuesday.

Online Bidding and Make an Offer Services are available for those buyers that cannot make it to Newmarket for the three day sale. Big on value, Classic Sale graduates have won 20 stakes races this season, with the winners priced from $14,000 to $70,000.
