Derby next for Rekindled Interest

Stallions - Michelle Cullen - Sunday, 24 October 2010

Just day’s after siring his 66th stakes winner, Redoute’s Choice had another stakes winner when Rekindled Interest won the Group 2 Mooney Valley Vase (2040m) on the Cox Plate under card Saturday afternoon.

Rekindled Interest has had a frustrating start to his classic season showing good ability with strong performances behind the Group I Caulfield Guineas winner, Anacheeva.

Carrying the familiar red and white stripe colours of Jonathan Munz, Rekindled Interest is prepared for him by Jim Conlan at Cranbourne.

A juvenile debut winner at Bendigo and on Saturday he chalked up his second win after a great ride by Dwayne Dunn.

Dunn followed the hot favourite Smokin’ Joey most of the way racing two back, one off the rails. Dunn made his run with 600m to go and swept around the favourite to get the better of the leader Lion Tamer (Storming Home – Lioness by Generous).

Rekindled Interest drew away win by 2-1/2 lengths with Hollowlea (Hidden Dragon – Cabaret Girl by Scenic), who ran into the race quickly on the turn, a further length-and-a-half way in third.

Conlan told TVN’s Bruce Clark that he would be recommending to Munz that they push forward to this Saturday’s Group I VRC Derby (2500m) at Flemington.

Rekindled Interest is the third stakes winner for his dam Rekindled Affair (by Rainbow Quest). Rekindled Affair is also the dam of the American Grade 3 winner, Where We Left Off (by Dr Devious) and the French Listed winner, Porticcio (by Lomitas).

He also topped off a good week for the Arrowfield stallion. Milestone had won the Listed Geelong Classic (2206m) last Wednesday, and, King’s Rose had won a Listed event in New Zealand the previous Sunday, October 17th.

In fact Redoute’s Choice had a very good day at Moonee Valley with Absolutely (ex Catshaan by Catrail) collecting a runners-up cheque in the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at just her second career-start. While his older son, Drumbeats (ex Delicate Choice by Last Tycoon) ran on well from the rear in the Group 2 Crystal Mile to claim third prizemoney.

Redoute’s Choice is currently serving mares at Arrowfield for a fee of $176,000 (inc GST).
