Deserved Stakes Win for Hallowell Belle

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 31 March 2012

Talented three year-old filly Hallowell Belle has been twice a runner-up in Group I races, so few could begrudge the filly her first Black Type success in the Listed ATC Darby Munro Quality at Rosehill on Saturday, the win providing a timely boost for her half-sister that will be offered at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Widden Stud.

A daughter of AJC Derby winner Starcraft, Hallowell Belle started her career with Gai Waterhouse, before enjoying a stint down south with Peter Moody last spring, but is now back at Tulloch Lodge.

Ridden a bold race by Tommy Berry from a wide gate, Hallowell Belle (pictured) showed her class to draw clear and win the 1200 metre sprint by a neck, her overall record now two wins and nine placings from 12 starts with prizemoney of $514,025.

"This win will be good for her confidence. She's been batting around against the likes of Sepoy and today was her day,” Berry said.

A $170,000 purchase from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Hallowell Belle is the 11thstakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud based Starcraft.

She is a half-sister to this season's stakes-placed two year-old Fuddle dee Duddle and is the first foal of Bella Inez, a half-sister by Beautiful Crown (USA) to Group I MRC Caufield Guineas winner In Top Swing.

Bella Inez was covered by Starcraft's dual Group I winning son Star Witness at Widden Stud last spring, so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Hallowell Belle later this year.

The current yearling from Bella Inez is a filly by Sebring that will be offered by Widden Stud as agent for Saconi Thoroughbreds as Lot 66 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
