Diamond dream not over yet

Racing Victoria - by Andrew Garvey - Wednesday, 30 January 2013

He might not have the arsenal of some of the bigger stables but Caulfield trainer Byron Cozamanis is still a chance of having a Patinack Farm Blue Diamond runner, after making the third acceptance payment on Tuesday for his pair of weekend two-year-old debutants, Feral Cowboy and Black Temptation.

Black Temptation (pictured as yearling), a daughter of Lonhro from a half-sister to multiple group one winning stayer Daliapour, cost Cozamanis $110,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale last year.

She will commence her career in the Sportingbet Plate over 1000 metres at Moonee valley on Friday night, with Billy Egan to ride from barrier four in field of nine after one early scratching.

Despite her rather stout pedigree, Black Temptation has been showing speed in her jumpouts at Caulfield and Cozamanis says from barrier four she should be able to race up on the speed.

''She's not big and I think will be a lot better off next time but she has shown good pace here at home so from barrier four she should be able to race handy,'' Cozamanis said.

''We paid up for her in the Diamond just in case but she would have to be impressive there on Friday night to continue on along that path.''

At Caulfield on Saturday in the Listed Chairman's Stakes, Cozamanis will step out Feral Cowboy, a son of Magnus and also a Melbourne Premier Sale graduate, costing $58,000.

Cozamanis said Feral Cowboy had shown promise in his first preparation and had continued to progress this time around.

''He went nicely in a couple of trials last time in and pleased me here in a jumpout on Tuesday, so we'll give him a go on Saturday.''

''He is a nice horse and we've paid up for him in the Diamond but Saturday will give us a bit of an idea as to where we will be going with him.''

Billy Egan will also take the ride on Feral Cowboy, which has drawn barrier 9 in a field of 12.

Cozamanis said he had been pleased with the effort of The Bronx at his debut in a Blue Diamond Preview last Saturday and the gelding is likely to have another start before a break.

''He showed good speed and could have run a place but cost himself by racing very greenly in the straight,'' said Cozamanis of the Preview run.

The trainer said The Bronx had come through that race well and will probably have another start at either Pakenham on Friday week or the $250,000 Inglis Premier race at Mornington on Cup day, a race the trainer finished third in last year with Repousser.
