Domesday Colt Takes Sires’

First season sire Domesday has come up with a real rising star during the Brisbane Winter Carnival with the Chris Waller trained colt Pressday claiming a powerful win in the Group Two QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

An impressive winner at his previous start in the Group Two BTC Champagne Stakes on May 22, Pressday repeated that performance, travelling just off the pace for Jim Cassidy and charging home with a well timed run to win by a length over Jesse’s Girl (Choisir).

The talented colt will be chasing Group One glory at his next run in the QTC TJ Smith Stakes at Eagle Farm on Monday week provided he comes through this win unscathed.

Pressday was a bargain purchase for his trainer, who secured the colt for just $38,000 from the Glenarvon Park draft at the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and races him in partnership with long time stable client Tony Muollo.

Pressday has now won three races from five starts earning $298,650 and looks a bright prospect for the future.

Pressday is the fourth foal and first stakes-winner for the good metropolitan winner Kaaptive Empress, a half-sister to the dam of New Zealand Group One winner The Mighty Lions.

Not surprisingly, Kaaptive Empress was covered again by Domesday last spring and also has a weanling filly by Librettist (USA).

Pressday is one of four winners for Domesday, who is also the sire of stakes-placed horses Exchanges, Divorces and Domesky.

A Group Two winner of the STC Silver Slipper by accomplished shuttle sire Read Ransom (USA), Domesday covered his biggest book of 139 mares last spring when his service fee was slashed from $11,000 to $5,500.

Given his burgeoning success, Domesday has had his fee put back to $11,000 and has been switched to Darley Victoria following the closing of the Darley owned Twin Hills property at Cootamundra.
