Racenet - Clinton Payne - Saturday, 25 September 2010
Peter Snowden will make a decision next week on whether he will back up the Drumbeats in the Epsom after he demolished his rivals in the Group III Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Redoute’s Choice entire gave his trainer a winning double, while it was the fourth winner of the day for jockey Corey Brown.
“We’ve got to think long and hard about the Epsom,” Snowden said. “It wasn’t on the agenda to do, once missed his first start [the Tramway] it put us out of sync and we were going to head to the Toorak.
“But we’ve certainly got to look at the race now, so we’ve got some serious thinking to do.”
Brown said Drumbeats's effort was awesome after the horse had been forced to travel three wide for much of the trip, before surprising his rider with the burst of speed he produced to put paid to the opposition’s hopes in the straight.
“He travelled well, but he actually surprised me when I pushed the button with the turn of foot he showed me,” he said. “But the best part of his race was the last 50 [metres] when he ran through the line strong.”
Drumbeats defeated the consistent Kenny’s World with Queensland visitor Captain Sonador in third.
