Easter Broodmare Sale Concludes at Newmarket

The curtain came down on the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale today, with $22,193,800 traded over the three days.

Stakes placed Danehill mare Isle Of Gibraltar topped the final session, fetching $350,000 to the bid of New Zealand’s Blandford Lodge. The mare was carrying a positive test to Coolmore Australia’s high profile acquisition High Chaparral.

Encosta de Lago mare Enduja, in foal to Shamardal with a Lonhro colt at foot, sold to David Redvers Bloodstock for $300,000. She will be mated to Dubawi’s brilliant 2000 Guineas winner Makfi, who will stand his first southern hemisphere season this spring.

The Fastnet Rock mare Crystal Wit sold for $280,000 today. She was sold in foal to Stratum, meaning the resultant progeny will be a three-quarter-sibling to last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily.

Top class mares Irongail (reserve $580,000), Jessicabeel ($500,000) and Chance Bye ($350,000) all passed in through the ring today, but remain for sale via the Make an Offer service along with all other passed in lots over the past three days.

Both the average of $72,058 and median of $30,000 were up on 2010 figures.

“There is no doubt that it was a very selective market here at Newmarket over the past few days.” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

“Breeders have done a tremendous job meeting the market with yearlings this year on the back of peak production costs. It was evident however that this will go down as a year where they are looking to consolidate without having surplus revenue to reinvest on breeding stock.”

Attention now turns to Oaklands for the two day Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale, which begins this Sunday. April 17.

The next Bloodstock Sale for Inglis is the 2011 Great Southern Sale, with the bloodstock section on May 19 and 20.

Entries are now open for the 2011 Inglis Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale to be held at Newmarket from June 22-24. Entries close on May 6.
