A three-year-old gelding by Exceed And Excel from Galapagos Girl topped the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s International Sale at Sha Tin on Sunday when selling for HK$7.5million (=A$1,060,000).
Prepared for Hong Kong at Tim Boland’s Limitless Lodge the striking chestnut was originally purchased for $220,000 by the HKJC International Sale's executive manager Mark Richards from Cressfield’s draft at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
"The sales topper was the horse we expected to be the highest priced lot," Richards told the South China Morning Post.
The son of Exceed And Excel was purchased by Tse Kwok Fai, who was seated with trainer Gary Ng.
Three other Inglis Select Yearling Sale buys that went through Saturday’s sale were also highly sought after by buyers:
Fastnet Rock x Permissive gelding (Lot 19) – HK$6,700,000 - $350,000 from Evergreen Stud Farm at Inglis Easter
Not A Single Doubt x Time To Move gelding (Lot 13) – HK$3,900,000 - $120,000 from Bellerive Stud at Inglis Premier
Encosta de Lago x Superior Star gelding (Lot 16) – HK$3,200,000 - $140,000 from Corumbene Stud at Inglis Easter
Trainer John Moore, who is a regular buyer at Australian Yearling Sales, claimed three wins on Sunday at Sha Tin with horses that were purchased at Inglis Select Yearling Sales:
Flagship Shine (Tale Of The Cat x Dixie Paradise) – HKJC Flying Dancer Hcp, 1400m - $180,000 from Bendaree Park Stud at Inglis Easter
Able Friend (Shamardal x Ponte Piccolo) – HKJC Dublin Hcp, 1600m – $550,000 from Turangga Farm at Inglis Easter
Let Me Go (Dubawi x Seto Chiffon) – HKJC Tokyo Hcp, 1800m - $90,000 from Ampulla Lodge at Inglis Premier
Able Friend and Flagship Shone are headed towards the Group 1 Classic Mile on 19 January 2014.
"Able Friend and Flagship Shine are very good horses and it is exciting, but I'm not going to split them and say who I think is best, we will let them race off set weights in the Classic Mile and see," said Moore.
