The international success of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale reached into Dubai overnight, with Redoute’s Choice colt Musir taking the Group 2 UAE Derby (1900m).
The win capped a wonderful Dubai carnival for the Mike de Kock trained MUSIR (P$900,000 2008 Easter, 3c Redoute’s Choice-Dizzy De Lago), who made it three from three at the new Meydan circuit. He had won the G3 UAE Guineas at his previous start.
Musir, who was a Group 1 winner in South Africa as a two-year-old, is now tipped to return to Australia and be aimed at this year’s Cox Plate.
His win underlines the versatility of the Australian breed, who have been successful at international level over all distance ranges in the past 12 months. Redoute's Choice is a fine example of this versatility, being the sire of both Golden Slipper and middle distance Classic winners. This year's Easter catalogue includes 47 Redoute's Choice yearlings.
Furthermore, Musir highlights the emergence of dual Champion Sire Encosta De Lago as a Broodmare Sire force. Beneteau is another Group winner this season from an Encosta De Lago mare and the Coolmore stallion has 27 fillies among his Easter draft of 57 yearlings. Furthermore, next month's Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale includes 16 Encosta De Lago mares.
Musir’s win completes a stellar month on the world stage for Easter graduates, who also won Group 1 races in Hong Kong (Happy Zero) and New Zealand (Zavite), not to mention the VRC’s Super Saturday Group 1 treble of the Newmarket Handicap (Wanted), Australian Cup (Zipping) and Australian Guineas (Rock Classic).
FRAVASHI ($550,000 2007 Easter, 4h Falbrav-Angelic Smile) added to the Easter presence at Meydan, finishing second in the inaugural running of the Group 3 Al Quoz Sprint. Dual Group 1 winner All Silent finished fifth in the same race and will now be spelled.
