Easter Colts Finish One-Two In Eventful Up And Coming Stakes

Having won the Listed ATC The Rosebud last time out over 1200m at Randwick, Scissor Kick returned to the scene of the crime on Saturday, stepping up to the 1300m to snatch victory from his stablemate Panzer Division in the Group 3 ATC Up And Coming Stakes.

Improving at each and every run, the Tye Angland-ridden Scissor Kick (Redoute’s Choice x Back Pass) settled back in the field before making a well-timed run to come through the field to defeat Panzer Division (Redoute’s Choice x Desert Fight) by a nose with Valentia back in third.

Joining previous Inglis graduates War (2012 Easter), Manawanui (2010 Classic), Court Command (2005 Classic), Fastnet Rock (2003 Easter) and Exceed And Excel (2002 Easter) who had all previously recorded victory in the Up And Coming Stakes, Scissor Kick is now likely to head to the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose over 1400m at his next start, a race his stablemate may also target.

Bred by Jonathan Munz’s G.S.A. Bloodstock, Scissor Kick was consigned through the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Australian Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Paul Messara for $200,000 on behalf of Arrowfield Stud with breeder Jonathan Munz buying back into the flashy colt.

Having also purchased Panzer Division from the same sale, trainer Paul Messara was obviously over the moon with the result of the race, stating that “They are two outstanding colts.”

“We weren’t sure if we’d run them today and we decided this morning we would. They both have unlimited ability and with both by Redoute’s Choice, they’ve got stallion potential.”

A full-brother to fellow Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate and now sire Sharkbite, Scissor Kick is still relatively only lightly raced, having achieved three wins from four starts to date and all involved with the talented and impressive looking colt are clearly excited about his future prospects not only on the track, but as a possible stallion prospect.

Broadwater Thoroughbreds have entered the High Chaparral half-brother to Scissor Kick for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on behalf of his breeder.

Later in the day, Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale and Inglis Red Centre Yearling Sale graduate Justify That (King Of Prussia x Duty With Honour) produced a well-timed run to come from back in the field to claim his first black type success, winning the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks.

Trained by Peter Moody, Justify That’s yearling purchase price of $4,000 from the draft of Little Plains Stud looks a bargain, with the victory of the gelding taking his career earnings past the $350,000.
