Soft Sand and Psychologist completed a top day for fillies purchased at Inglis Yearling Sales taking out the final two races on the Caulfield racecard in Melbourne, the Listed MRC Kevin Hayes Stakes and Group Three MRC Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes over 1200m respectively.
Soft Sand ($160,000 2010 Easter, 3f Dansili-Mizzle) was set for today’s event and jockey Damien Oliver had very little to worry about in the run as the impressive filly scorched down the centre of the track to score by just under three lengths over Champion New Zealand filly Anabandana.
The daughter of Dansili was purchased by her trainer Colin Little for $160,000 at Easter in 2010 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, who will offer her half-sister by Hard Spun at this year’s Easter Sale as Lot 290
Soft Sand (pictured) will now head to the Group Two MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1400m back at Caulfield in two weeks’ time.
Psychologist ($120,000 2009 Easter II, 4m Choisir-Miss Conception) then confirmed she was back to her sizzling best taking out the final event on the super day, the Group 3 MRC Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes, over Slow The Flow and Let’s Be Happy.
A debut winner of the Group Three MRC Blue Diamond Prelude on this day two years ago Psychologist has caused some headaches for her connection the last couple of seasons, but without doubt is still a top quality sprinter on her day.
The Tony Vasil trained mare was selected out of Session Two at the 2009 Easter Sale by Hong Kong based owner Chun Ngai for $120,000 from the draft of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds, who will offer her brother by Choisir as Lot 282 at Easter this April 10-12.
Earlier today Australia’s superstar mare Black Caviar stretched her unbeaten record to 18 straight wins when taking out the Group One MRC C.F. Orr Stakes over 1400m. Her blue-blooded half-sister by Redoute’s Choice will be offered at Easter as Lot 200
