Easter Live On Tvn

10th Apr 2006

Following a hugely successful broadcast from last month’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, William Inglis & Son will again be teaming up with racing’s premium sports and interactive channel TVN to telecast live from the Australian Easter Yearling Sales next week.

Fronted by host Bruce Clark and guest presenter Melissa O’Gorman, TVN will screen live from Inglis’s Newmarket sale complex throughout the three-day yearling sale, providing comprehensive coverage and commentary on the auction shouldered by racing from Pakenham on Tuesday, Oaks Day at Randwick, plus action from Sandown on Wednesday and coverage of the Bendigo card on Thursday.

Managing Director Reg Inglis said: “The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale is our bloodstock industry’s showcase and a truly fascinating event for anyone interested in breeding and racing, we are delighted TVN viewers Australia-wide will be joining us over the three-days to share in the excitement of the auction.”

MISS FINLAND HEADS CLASS JUVENILE FIELD IN

GROUP 1 WILLIAM INGLIS & SON AJC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES

Flying-filly Miss Finland (2005 Easter $450,000) heads up a stellar field of juveniles gunning for glory in the William Inglis & Son AJC Sires Produce Stakes run at Randwick this Saturday.

The emphatic AAMI Golden Slipper winner was confirmed as a definite starter in the $450,000 race by part-owner John Messara yesterday, who said she had shown no ill-effects from her breathtaking win in the two-year-old blue ribband on Saturday.

A number of Inglis graduates joined Miss Finland in the acceptances for the 1400m contest including the Black Opal winner Down The Wicket (2005 Classic $38,000) Bailleu Stakes victor Mentality (2005 Easter $100,000); stakes-placed Rubric (2005 Easter $350,000) and Luvuleo (2005 Classic $100,000).

EASTER COUNTDOWN

Marquees are up and floats are rolling in thick and fast at the Inglis Newmarket sale complex.

One of the early birds is Windsor Park Stud who having shipped a draft of nine yearlings from New Zealand has travelled further than most.

The high-flying Cambridge-based nursery is returning to sell in Sydney after a break of over ten-years.

Marketing manager Michael Moran feels it is definitely worth the journey, saying: “Obviously it’s a great sale, a market we’ve really got to look at. We’ve sold some pretty good horses here and decided it was time to come back.

“I’m pretty hopeful of the sale this year, we have a lovely draft. Last time we sold here we came with eight horses and two of them went on to win Group 1s - one being a real superstar - Might And Power.”

Among their draft this year are four yearlings from the penultimate New Zealand crop of Montjeu. The European sire sensation spent four seasons shuttling to Windsor Park, before being taken off southern hemisphere duties by Coolmore due to his increasing stud value in the Northern Hemisphere.

His first New Zealand crop are three-year-olds of this season and include 22 individual winners, including four stakes horses.

Moran’s pick from the four is lot 312 the first foal from winning Kaapstad mare Galadriel. Galadriel is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winners Just A Dancer and Field Dancer.

“He’s a great first foal,” says Moran. “He’s from a great family we’ve had a lot of luck with.”

For those buyers looking to invest in a filly, Moran points out Windsor Park’s Black Minnaloushe filly.

The chestnut is from the multiple stakes-winning Kaapstad mare Greta Hall, a full-sister to the AJC Epsom Handicap winner Golden Sword, from a family replete with black-type.

“I think she has great residual value,” he says. “Also Black Minnaloushe is the best performed freshman sire this year, he’s had four stakes-winners from his first crop.”

Eyecatching as an early type is lot 336, a Volksraad colt from the Kaapstad mare Ice Cap. The well-grown bay is a three-quarter brother to the Oakleigh Plate winner Dantelah and descends from co-champion Irish two-year-old filly, Cake.

Moran describes him as a nice strong colt.
