Easter Quartet Raise The Bar

Easter graduates raised the bar in a 24 hour period over the weekend snaring four stakes races thanks to three two-year-olds and one guineas winner; Zululand, Majmu, Banaadeer and Interspersed.

Zululand (Fastnet Rock x Dream Play) got things rolling with a dominant win in the Gr.2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes for two-year-olds over 1400m at Flemington on Saturday.

Zululand was bred and sold by Kia-Ora Stud for $1,500,000 at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale to Tom Magnier for Coolmore / China Horse Club.

10 hours later two juveniles purchased from the same sale recorded their first stakes victories in South Africa for champion trainer Mike de Kock, jockey Anthony Delpech and owner Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.

Majmu (Redoute's Choice x Spontaneous) struck first scoring a length win on debut in the Listed Ruffian Stakes for two-year-old fillies over 1000m at Turffontein.

Bred and sold by Arrowfield Stud at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000 to Shadwell Stud, Majmu (pictured) is the second foal of South American Group 1 winner Spontaneous.

Banaadeer (More Than Ready x Provence) then made it a running double at Turffontein when taking out the Listed Storm Bird Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings over 1000m.

The colt has stamped himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting juveniles with an eight length debut win followed by Saturday’s three length romp at stakes level.

Banaadeer was bred by Mr R Anderson and sold to Shadwell Stud for $700,000 from Widden Stud’s draft at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Rounding out the quartet of Easter graduates to break through at stakes level in 24 hours was the Sam Kavanagh bought and trained three-year-old Interspersed in Australia’s capital city on Sunday.

Interspersed (Sebring x Scattered) was set a big task from the back of the Canberra Guineas field, but the lightly raced filly came with huge strides down the straight to claim the 1400m event over fellow Easter graduates Lorna May and Liberty’s Choice.

The improving daughter of Sebring was purchased by trainer Sam Kavanagh for $145,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from Highgrove Stud.

Interspersed has had just four career starts for two wins and one placing. Her future looks bright with the Sydney Autumn riches highly enticing.

Siblings to Zululand and Interspersed are among the 550 lots catalogued for the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on 8, 9 & 10 April 2014. In fact there are over 140 siblings to stakes winners catalogued for the first class auction.

Highgrove Stud will offer Interspersed’s half-sister by Fastnet Rock as Lot 194. Zululand’s brother by Fastnet Rock will be offered by Kia-Ora Stud as Lot 417.

Fastnet Rock is represented with 55 yearlings in the Easter Sale. There are 36 lots by Majmu’s sire Redoute’s Choice, 41 by Banaadeer’s sire More Than Ready and 21 yearlings by Interspersed’s sire Sebring. From start to finish the quality available at Easter is second to none.
