Easter two-year-olds setting the standard

Photos of yearlings set to go under the hammer at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale are being uploaded online, whilst juveniles purchased from the Newmarket ring twelve months ago set the standard in the run up to the Golden Slipper.

Easter graduates Ashokan and Jade Marauder put themselves in the picture for a crack at Group One glory over the Sydney Carnival with wins at Group Three level at Randwick on Saturday, while Raceway lost no admirers with his fast finishing second placing in the Skyline.

Samaready’s dominant Blue Diamond Stakes win last month continued the recent ascendancy of Easter graduates in Australia’s Group One events for juveniles.

The daughter of More Than Ready (pictured as yearling) currently heads the market for the world’s richest two-year-old race, the $3.5million ATC Golden Slipper, an event won 17 times by horses purchased from Easter such as recent champion fillies Forensics and Miss Finland.

Easter graduates make up just 3% of the total foal crop, yet have won 32% of the Australian Group One races for two-year-olds in the last six years.

In fact, half of the races that were won by a horse offered at auction were won by an Easter graduate, an amazing result for a sale that makes up just 8% of the Australasian yearling sale crop.

Second favourite for next month’s Golden Slipper is 2011 Easter Sale topper All Too Hard. The Patinack Farm owned colt will be hoping to join the likes of Luskin Star, Marscay, Sir Dapper, Rory’s Jester, John’s Hope, Star Watch, Tierce, Flying Spur and Catbird as Easter colts to win the feature two-year-old dash.

The 2012 Easter Sale will be held at Inglis’ Newmarket Complex in Sydney from April 10 to 12, between the Australian Turf Club’s Golden Slipper and Derby weekends.
