The long list of black-type performers bred, raised and sold by Emirates Park has another live candidate for inclusion in the form of Petits Filous (Street Boss x Excellent Lady), a brilliant Melbourne metropolitan winner on debut at Moonee Valley.
Trained by the outstanding young horseman Ciaron Maher and ridden by Victoria’s multiple champion jockey Damien Oliver, Petits Filous turned in a 1000-metre 2YO Handicap into a procession, leading with ease before clearing out to an emphatic six-length success.
Petits Filous is a graduate of the 2014 Classic Yearling Sale (Summer Book) for which she was presented as Lot 152. A near-black daughter of Street Boss (USA) bred, raised and sold by Emirates Park, she was bought by Ciaron Maher for $65,000 and now races in the burgeoning stable’s familiar blue and green colours.
Speaking after the victory, Maher suggested: "If she wins like that I don’t think we have to get her out over any further [in distance], but she’s always been really sharp and a very professional little filly. I suppose we’ll just keep her at the sprint trips at this stage and go from there.”
Winning rider Damien Oliver was equally enamored by the win of the striking filly. "She’s got good natural speed, she’s quite naturally brilliant and she’s got good acceleration as well,” reflected Oliver. "I think she’s worth going on with to the early Spring.”
Petits Filous is the second foal of an unplaced half-sister to the Group 1 winning racemare La Bella Dama (VRC L.K.S. Mackinnon S.-G1). This is also the immediate family of La Rocket, a six-time winner of $517,642 including the MRC St George Stakes at Group 2 level.
Emirates Park also sold Petits Filous’ half-brother at this year’s Classic Yearling Sale (Summer Book). A son of Dream Ahead (USA), the youngster was bought by Ontrack Thoroughbreds (Lot 81) for $60,000 and put into training with Chris Waller — following in the hoofprints of the syndication company’s Group 1 star Brazen Beau.
