Nominations ahead of Inglis’ Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale to be held in Sydney from June 25 - 28 indicate that breeders have embraced the concept and the new sale’s timing, with another outstanding array of bloodstock to be catalogued.
Final entries will be taken this Friday May 8 before the main catalogue is closed off for lotting.
The weanling section will again feature the very successful TVN New Sires Showcase, which will be screened to a national audience on TVN on the evening prior to the sale.
Studmasters eager to promote their young sires have seized the opportunity of showcasing weanlings to the the greater TVN audience. Coolmore (Holy Roman Emperor & Aussie Rules), Widden (Strada) and Baerami (California Dane) in particular have supported the showcase strongly with weanlings by the promising Danehill stallions.
One minor alteration to this year’s format will see the first crop foals sold throughout the catalogue – not as a separate group as they were last year.
Like last year, where Tyreel and Risdon Studs sold a wonderful collection of horses, the 2009 Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale once again feature a headline Dispersal, with the Johnson family electing to sell this year.
The dispersal boasts 11 weanlings, including a Redoute’s Choice half-sister to Ain’t Here and progeny by Charge Forward, Snitzel, Mossman and Nadeem.
“Well bred and well conformed weanlings should achieve good results in late June, with pinhookers still keen to invest in quality stock.” said Inglis’ Managing Director Mark Webster.
With the success of horses like The Pooka and this season’s two-year-old Group 1 and Karaka Million winner The Heckler – both graduates of Inglis weanling sales and both successfully pinhooked as yearlings – New Zealand demand for weanlings will again be very strong this year.
Vendors should note that any weanling whose dam was sold at the Australian Easter Broodmare Sale can be sold commission free at this sale.
The broodmare section of the sale headed by the unreserved Johnson family dispersal that includes the Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, has also attracted good quality entries, including General Nediym filly Sienna’s Fury, the winner of the MRC Blue Diamond Preview last season. Sienna’s Fury will be offered as a breeding and racing prospect.
“We know the market is down this year, but recent results show that the demand for quality race fillies, young mares and proven producers is still very strong.” said Webster.
Almost $30million was traded at this sale last year, including 14 horses for $500,000 or more, highlighted by the southern hemisphere record price of $5million for Milanova.
“The results from last year’s sale showed how this sale is ideally placed for both vendors and buyers right before the start of the breeding season,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
As another added Inglis incentive to this sale any mare who was withdrawn from or passed in at the Select Session of the Australian Easter Broodmare sale will receive FREE entry into the Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale.
