Equus Awards Nominations For Australian-breds

After multiple success in South Africa’s 2013-2014 Equus Awards another five Australian-bred thoroughbreds hold nominations in this year’s awards to be presented on August 11.

This year the winner of the G1 Allan Robertson Championship Entisaar, a daughter of More Than Ready, looks an outstanding chance in the Champion Two-year-old Filly category.

A winner of three of her four starts to date, all at stakes level, the Vinery Stud graduate was secured by Shadwell Australia at the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales for $300,000.

Entisaar proved a model of consistency in her first campaign, winning three of her four outings with her sole defeat coming when second in the G3 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Like Majmu, Entisaar won the Ruffian Stakes first time out and went on to success in the G2 SA Fillies Nursery before ending her campaign with a comprehensive win in the Allan Robertson Fillies Championship.

Majmu, the grey Redoute’s Choice filly from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, takes on fellow Australian-bred filly Alboran Sea, a graduate of Rosemont Stud’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale draft in the Champion 3YO Filly category.

Both were nominated in the 2YO category last year and both have recorded a pair of G1 victories during their three-year-old season.

Rock Of Gibraltar filly Alboran Sea was able to defeat the older sprinters including Horse of the Year contender Captain Of All while Majmu came up short outside of her own age group.

Alboran Sea picked up a pair of G1 wins in the Cape Flying Championship and Computaform Sprint in open company.

Alboran Sea will oppose Carry On Alice Horseform and Captain Of All in the Champion Sprinter category, having beaten both home in the G1 Computaform Sprint.

Arcetri Pink, another daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar will fly the Australian flag in the Champion Older Filly/Mare category while the recently retired Wylie Hall, a graduate of the Newhaven Park draft at the Magic Millions, is nominated in the Champion Middle Distance and Champion Older Male categories.

A winner of the G1 Champions Challenge where he defeated Majmu, Wylie Hall has been a consistent galloper over numerous seasons and now retires to Cheveley Stud to start the next phase of his career, becoming the first son of Redoute’s Choice to stand at stud in South Africa.
