Excellent Results Across The Board At The Inglis Sydney Classic Summer Book

The 2014 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book concluded on Monday with excellent results across the board pointing to strengthening support for the new format.

“This sale is really making a name for itself as the place to offer strong athletic types regardless of pedigree. Our bloodstock team focus on identifying those types and buyers have swarmed to snap them up here in Sydney,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

15 lots by 13 different sires sold for $100,000 or more at this year’s Classic Summer Book. They included colts by Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt, Big Brown, Nicconi, Sebring, Rothesay, Street Sense, Teofilo, Myboycharlie, I Am Invincible and Dubleo, plus fillies by Northern Meteor, Not A Single Doubt and Star Witness.

McEvoy Mitchell Racing secured two of the six figure lots on Day Two, including the sale topper by Snitzel. The colt from stakes placed Danehill mare Sharp Hill was secured for $200,000 when offered as Lot 396 on account of Carramar Park.

Laurel Oak Bloodstock purchased the top priced filly by Northern Meteor from Redoute’s Choice mare Luscilla’s Choice for $130,000. The filly was sold by Broadwater Thoroughbreds as Lot 275.

“On the back of the last two day’s there is certainly plenty of potential to grow this sale, with a wide buying bench of local, interstate and overseas buyers strongly competing on the better types offered here,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

Buyers from all across Australia faced stiff international competition in the Newmarket ring over the past two days, with New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and South Africa all very active.

McEvoy Mitchell Racing finished as the leading individual buyer having secured six lots for a total of $435,000.

Paul Guy’s Heritage Bloodstock was extremely busy on Sunday and Monday buying 11 lots at $373,000 for clients from South Africa.

The overall average price for the 2014 Classic Summer Book closed at $35,020, which is an increase of 5% on last year.

The Day One clearance rate has risen to 87%. Today’s 80% clearance rate is also expected to keep rising as private offers continue to flow in via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.

Widden Stud, which sold outstanding Classic graduates Whobegotyou, Triple Honour, Typhoon Zed and Cavalry Rose here at Newmarket, has finished the 2014 Summer Book as the leading vendor by aggregate having sold 24 lots for $748,000.

Southern Cross Breeders led the vendors by average (3 or more sold) at $63,333. Carramar Park also had a tremendous sale selling nine lots at an average of $63,000.

Amarina Farm, Broadwater Thoroughbreds, Dartbrook Downs, Edinglassie Stud, Marquee Stud and Sledmere Stud all recorded 100% clearance rates for the 8 or more lots they each offered.
