Saturday’s $250,000 Racing Rewards Inglis Nursery, for two-year-olds nominated to the lucrative Inglis Race Series, has been earmarked to announce a new rewards scheme for clients of Inglis sales, which is part of a broader partnership with Racing NSW that will also involve other industry bodies such as studs and trainers to encourage investment into racing.
Yearling buyers at all Inglis Sales from 2010 will be eligible to earn Racing NSW Rewards points on their purchases. The scheme will be introduced at the 2010 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale on January 24 & 25 and will extend to Inglis’ Melbourne Sales as well.
In a coup for the industry, Racing NSW board member Kim Harding has been able to negotiate a deal with Visa and MasterCard, whereby billions of dollars worth of loyalty points from those schemes can be transferred into the Racing NSW Rewards program.
“Initially buyers will be eligible to earn points on yearling purchases from Inglis sales, and will be given the opportunity to double or triple their points by insuring their yearlings with Inglis and paying up for the Inglis Race Series,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
“For example, a person who buys a yearling for $100,000 at an Inglis sale in 2010 will be able to earn 100,000 points for their purchase, an extra 100,000 points for insuring with Inglis and another 100,000 for the Race Series. That’s 300,000 points for one purchase.
“Points can then be redeemed on future purchases from Inglis sales, insurance premiums and other products.”
Inglis will be the exclusive thoroughbred auctioneer and insurance partner to the scheme meaning buyers won’t be able to spend points at sales held by other auction houses, only with Inglis and other Racing NSW Rewards partners.
Several breeders have joined the scheme via Racing NSW and are expected to offer bonus points if someone buys a yearling from their draft at an Inglis yearling sale.
“More and more offers will be rolled out as the program develops, but I can confirm that we will also be offering points for other bloodstock insured with Inglis Insurance from early 2010, such as broodmares, weanlings and racehorses.
“Anyone can participate in the program, including local, interstate and international buyers, vendors and racing participants in general.
Cards will be sent to all existing Inglis clients and other industry participants in early 2010 so at this stage there is no need to apply for a card. Once a person receives their card they can start earning points, even before they register for the program. It will be very simple to participate.
“Given the amount of points out there that can be transferred from these other rewards programs directly into racing, it can only boost our industry.”
In addition to a first prize of $150,000 and a $20,000 BOBS bonus, the winner of the inaugural Racing Rewards Inglis Nursery for two-year-olds on Saturday will receive 250,000 points and have the honour of being the first recipient of points.
