Familiar faces battle out Easter stakes in Singapore

The second leg of the 2013 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe Series, the S$90,000 Inglis Australian Easter Sale Stakes, was conducted over 1000m at Kranji in Singapore on Sunday, with only a short head separating Tashi and Rikioh on the line.

The victory of Tashi (Johannesburg x Forty Teorica) is the first Golden Horseshoe Series win for trainer Michael Clements, who is keen to wrestle away fellow trainer Theo Kieser’s tag of ‘King of the Kids’ in Singapore.

The Easter Stakes result was a turn around on the first ever race in the two-year-old series back in February 2011, the Inglis Melbourne Juvenile Stakes, when the Kieser trained Kaiser defeated the Clements trained Totality.

Sunday’s quinella have big footsteps to follow in as Kaiser and Totality have both gone on to earn more than S$350,000 each at Kranji during their successful racing careers.

Australian bred and Inglis sold gallopers featured prominently at the recent 2012 Singapore Racing Awards, claiming the Champion Two-year-old, Miler and Stayer awards.

Rising Empire ($60,000 Premier) secured last year’s Champion two-year-old crown after defeating a strong field in the Group 3 Singapore Juvenile Championship.

Better Life ($150,000 Easter) took the Champion Miler and Champion Stayer honours after claiming the first and third legs of Singapore’s Triple Crown, the Group 1 Kranji Mile and the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup, which is the country’s richest domestic event.

Siblings to Rising Empire and Better Life are amongst the 162 siblings to stakes winners that have been catalogued for this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which will be conducted in Sydney on 9, 10 and 11 April.

“Australian bred runners have won twice as many Group races in Singapore since 2008 than gallopers from any other individual country,” Inglis Asia Representative Peter Twomey points out.

“Singapore’s pin-up horse Better Life typifies the quality of young racehorse that is catalogued by Inglis’ experienced bloodstock team at Easter and I certainly look forward to welcoming Singapore Turf Club owners and trainers who want to aim higher in Sydney next month,” said Twomey.

This year’s streamlined Aushorse Golden Horseshoe Series for two-year-olds comprises five S$90,000 lead up races, which each carry a S$30,000 bonus, followed by the S$375,000 Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe on Friday May 17 which carries a S$75,000 bonus.

Only horses Australian sired and offered for sale at a public auction through Inglis or Magic Millions are qualified to collect the bonuses. As Tashi does not qualify last Sunday’s S$30,000 Bonus will jackpot to the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe in May.

Remaining legs of this year’s series include the Inglis Sydney Juvenile Stakes on Friday 3 May, which will act as the final lead in to the Golden Horseshoe a fortnight later.
