Fastnet colt steals the show late on Day Two

The positive bidding experienced early at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale continued into Day Two, with a colt by Fastnet Rock stealing the show late in the day when selling to Demi O’Byrne and James Bester for $500,000.

The total sale gross has sped past $21.4million, with 144 lots selling today for climbing average and median prices of $76,889 and $65,000 respectively.

“To clear 80% of the yearlings offered today at a very handsome average is a great result for our vendors”, said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

Musk Creek’s Fastnet Rock-Bellevue Lady colt (Lot 408) had been very popular since arriving at Inglis’ Oaklands complex late last week and bidding came thick and fast when the yearling stepped into the ring just before 5pm. The colt was finally knocked down to James Bester Bloodstock and Coolmore Stud’s Demi O’Byrne for $500,000.

Again there were plenty of familiar faces back buying today at Melbourne Premier, plus a number of new additions to the buyers list at Victoria’s showcase sale.

BC3 Thoroughbreds and David Hayes Racing held the top price for the majority of the day, having gone to $340,000 to purchase the Fastnet Rock-So Funny colt (Lot 240) from Rheinwood Pastoral for $340,000.

Blue Diamond winning trainer Mick Price earlier got the day off to a flying start purchasing the first lot into the ring, Yallambee Stud’s More Than Ready-Seeking A Way colt (Lot 206), for $260,000.

Greg Eurell purchased Shadow Glen’s colt by Sebring from Tycoon Milly (Lot 313) for $120,000, the same price he paid for Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker at Melbourne Premier in 2009.

Chris and Michael Ward’s Triple Crown Syndications have had plenty of success with horses purchased at Premier, such multiple Group Two winner Hot Snitzel, and the team picked up another two yearlings today to add to the four they purchased on Monday.

Hot Snitzel’s trainer Gerald Ryan was also busy adding another two purchases to his stable, including Bellerive Stud’s colt by Snitzel from Zabeel mare Zaby Zaby (Lot 350) for $105,000.

Fellow Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings purchased the half-brother to his recent Group Two winner Upbeat (Lot 230) from the draft of Eliza Park for $120,000.

South African buyers purchased 11 yearlings today, including Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Melherbe who has previously sourced Group winners Le Drakkar, Royal Chalon, King Slayer and Liancourt Rock for trainer Dean Kannemeyer from just a handful of past Melbourne Premier purchases.

Victorian trainer Robbie Griffiths has taken over as the leading buyer at the sale so far having bought seven yearlings for a total of $750,000 over the past two days.

“There has been a great buzz around the sale the past few days with the strong group of new and existing buyers all being rewarded with some fantastic types”, Heagney added.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer Sacred Kingdom’s brother tomorrow, on what should be another great day for buyers to pick up a quality yearling here in Melbourne”, Heagney added

Horses passed in during today’s session are all still available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer service.

Day three of the four day sale gets underway at 11am tomorrow. Online Bidding is again available for those buyers unable to attend the Oaklands complex.
