Progressive Reset gelding Fawkner provided the powerful Lloyd Williams team with their first winner at the Flemington carnival when he cruised clear for an easy victory in the first event on Oaks Day.
Prepared by Robert Hickmott, Fawkner was backing up from a good win at Moonee Valley on October 28 and appreciated the step up to 1800 metres in the Ratings 89 event.
Given a perfect ride by Nick Hall, Fawkner (pictured Taron Clarke Photography) settled off the pace and accelerated strongly in the straight to score a commanding three and a quarter length win, his fourth from six starts with prizemoney of $136,851.
"It's taken him some time to get there, but he's showing all the right signs,” said Nick Williams.
"He's a horse that is dear to our heart being by Reset, who we raced and his dam Dane Belltar is the mother of Tanby, who won the Geelong Cup for us.
"Hopefully, he's a horse going places.”
A $70,000 purchase from the Mill Park draft at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Fawkner is the second foal of Group III winning Danewin mare Dane Belltar, who was a top class filly, placing in no fewer than three Group I Oaks events.
