Graduates from the top end of Easter have flagged their spring carnival ambitions, with today’s highly impressive Moonee Valley winner Time Thief becoming the fifth Inglis $2million yearling to win since the start of the new racing season.
Trainer Lee Freedman now intends to set TIME THIEF (2007 Easter $2million, 3c Redoute’s Choice-Procrastinate) on a path towards the Caulfield Guineas, as he regards the colt as a Group 1 horse in the making.
Time Thief was offered for sale by Kia Ora Stud and secured by John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed.
He was the first leg of a winning double for $2million yearlings at the Moonee Valley meeting, with ALLIED FORCE (2006 Easter $2million, 4h Redoute’s Choice-Urge To Merge) making it two from two this campaign with another dominant display.
Purchased by Rob McAnulty from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, Allied Force started the winning run for expensive babies when he scored a cavalier maiden win at Bendigo on August 7.
Trainer David Hayes said the entire was one of his best two-year-olds in 2006-07, but shin soreness prevented him from contesting the top races.
However the newly inducted Hall of Fame trainer is convinced the four-year-old is now ready to graduate to stakes company.
A second McAnulty purchase is also headed towards better races.
EL CAIRO (2007 Easter $2million, 3c Redoute’s Choice-Egyptian Ibis) scored an impressive Hawkesbury win at his most recent start and he is now set on a path towards the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.
Another expensive baby with Classic aspirations is MOVIN’ OUT (2007 Easter $2.2million, 3f Encosta De Lago-Twyla), who mowed down her rivals at the AJC Newcastle meeting yesterday to win by a widening five lengths.
Like El Cairo, she was offered for sale by Coolmore and secured by Woodlands Stud and was the first leg of back-to-back blueblood winners for the Sheikh Mohammed colours in the past two days.
Encosta De Lago is represented at this Friday’s Inglis Scone Broodmare Sale, with 190 lots to be offered, starting from 11am.
