The tempo achieved yesterday continued on Day 2 of the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, which was highlighted by the sale of Group 1 winning mare La Montagna for $475,000.
In all, gross takings now exceed $14.5million, with a $51,583 average and 75% clearance rate.
The overall clearance rate is likely to continue to rise, as evidenced by yesterday's figure, which had increased to 78% by late this afternoon.
La Montagna (pictured), winner of the G1 QTC Stradbroke Handicap and more than $1million, was knocked down to Patinack Farm, carrying a positive test to Coolmore's dual hemisphere Group One winner Haradasun.
Nathan Tinkler's operation is the leading purchaser at the sale to date, securing five mares for a total of $1,745,000.
Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster noted the wide range of buyers active this week.
"There has been a good spread of Australasian buyers, including a number of clients from Western Australia and New Zealand who have travelled to Sydney," Webster said.
"Additionally, it's great to have the emerging markets of Korea and the Philippines represented, along with other international buyers from Hong Kong, Ireland, the UK and North America."
Webster pointed out there is still numerous opportunities tomorrow to secure a quality matron for the upcoming breeding season.
"It's pleasing to see the figures from yesterday holding steady, but certainly buyers here this week have shopped extremely well," he said.
"I would expect that trend to continue through tomorrow's final session, where there is obviously a lot of anticipation about Samantha Miss stepping into the Newmarket ring again."
Tomorrow's session begins from 10.30am, with the remaining Select mares, followed immediately by the Supplementaries.
A big crowd is expected to gather at Newmarket tomorrow afternoon, with glamour filly Samantha Miss (Redoute's Choice), the $1.5million Easter Yearling who has gone on to become a three times Group 1 winner, scheduled to be sold around 3.00pm.
Following the Supplementaries, which also include stakes winners Paris Return, Sarthemare, Zipanese, G3 placed Interfere, Jezabeel's sister Fleureel and the regally related Eshaarat and Gilded Minstrel, the sale will conclude with the General Session.
All passed in horses are available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service and tomorrow's concluding session will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live.
