The highest priced Southern Hemisphere bred yearling from the first crop of English Derby winner New Approach (IRE) was a stunning colt from Lute (NZ) that made a winning debut in Japan last weekend.
Offered for sale by Glastonbury Farm at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale the colt (pictured) fetched $475,000 to the bid of Japanese buyer Yasushi Kubota, who duly had his purchase exported to Japan straight after the sale.
Having his first start at Hanshin last Saturday, Approaching was taking on Northern Hemisphere bred three year-olds in the 1800 metre event on dirt and cruised away to win by more than three lengths in a very encouraging performance given the big field of 16 runners.
Approaching is the third foal and third winner for Lute, a half-sister by Stravinsky (USA) to Group I winner Foxwood, from the family of Group I winners Gurners Lane, Sovereign Red and Trichelle.
Lute has had two fillies by Flying Spur since Approaching and was sent back to New Approach last spring.
Lot 390, a colt from Flying Spur mare Vachere, is the lone yearling by New Approach catalogued for the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
