Exciting young Newgate Farm stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock-Forest Native, by Forest Wildcat) has sired his first winner with 2YO filly Kentucky Miss posting a brilliant debut win at Warwick Farm on Thursday.

Prepared locally by Joe Pride, Kentucky Miss showed her impressive barrier trial win at Warwick Farm on 18 December was no fluke when letting down with a sharp turn of foot in the straight to score by 3.3-lengths over 1000m.

"Off the back of one trial that was a really good performance," Pride told Sky Racing.

"She's an exceptionally quick filly as everybody got to see there."

He added: "It's the first winner for Foxwedge and it was a good performance. I think there are going to be plenty more wins in store for her."

Trained by John O'Shea, Foxwedge retired as the best son of Fastnet Rock to Newgate in 2012 with 5 wins from 13 starts, including a Gr1 triumph in the William Reid Stakes where he defeated top-class sprinters Hay List and Buffering.

Foxwedge's progeny have been in high demand at the sales, and Pride, for one, believes he possesses all the attributes to make it as a stallion.

"He's going to be a quality stallion," said Pride.

"He was a very good horse himself so I'm sure that it will only be a matter of time before he gets plenty of winners."

As for Kentucky Miss's immediate future, Pride said her pedigree suggested she could develop into a classy juvenile.

Purchased for $250,000 by Pride at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Luskin Park Stud, Kentucky Miss is out of the US-bred mare Twelve Pack Shelly (Deputy Storm), a two-time stakes winner over 900m and 1100m, as well as a Gr3 placegetter over 1000m.

"She's quite precocious and she's out of a very fast American mare so we will be looking to make the most of her two-year-old season," Pride said.
