Five Wins for Fastnet HK Flyer

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Monday, 30 May 2011

Talented Fastnet Rock four year-old Sichuan Success scored a dominant win at Sha Tin on Sunday, his fifth victory from just nine starts.

The John Size trained gelding strode clear to take the Class Two event over 1400 metres by nearly three lengths with Douglas Whyte in the saddle and has won three of his past four starts, the only blot on his copybook when finishing midfield in the Mercedes Benz Classic Mile HK Gr 1 at his previous run back in January.

Sichuan Success (pictured as a yearling) had been seen as a fringe HK Derby candidate earlier in the year, but he pulled up tired and jaded after the Classic Mile, so was give a much needed break by John Size which has obviously worked wonders.

"He feels better now than he did last preparation. John's an absolute genius," Douglas Whyte told South China Morning Post.

"Sichuan Success is a horse who can get himself a bit worked up before a race, but today he came out fresh but still calm and mentally stable. When I asked him the question, he felt like a proper horse today. There isn't much left of this season for him, but he's going to keep getting stronger and he'll be tackling the big boys next season."

Purchased for $135,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by John Foote Bloodstock, Sichuan Success was bred by Andrew Bowcock and is the ninth foal of terrific producer Coureuse.

He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Tom Coureuse and Pirouettes as well as good HK galloper Yellow Diamond, his dam a daughter Dancer’s Joy.
