Buyers were out in force at Oaklands Junction for Friday's March Thoroughbred Sale. The 325 strong main catalogue and 30 supplementary entries featured a reduction sale of racehorses from Lloyd Williams and while the last start Sandown Park winner Tintern was a withdrawal, there was still plenty of competition on the Williams horses and the bids came from all corners of a packed auditorium.
Queensland based trainer John Wallace has enjoyed success previously with horses from the Williams stable and he will now take over the training of FORBES (4 g Zabeel – Indent) which topped the sale at $200,000. Queensland is also the destination for SIMPLEST (3 c Choisir – Mad Desire), a Listed-placed winner at Ballarat that sold to William Inglis as Agent for $120,000.
In the broodmare section, the Group One placed mare Curio Jade in foal to Bel Esprit realised top price of $40,000 whilst Patinack Farm continued their buying acquiring Ice Flyer for $14,000 and Salinger for $15,000.
William Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney was suitably pleased with the results. “We saw some well-performed horses generate good competition at all levels. We have seen buyers from all over Australia active today and considering it was a large catalogue, a clearance rate of nearly 90 per cent is ample proof of the depth of the sale.
The Inglis sale scene now turns to Sydney on Monday the 17th of March for the Autumn Thoroughbred Sale where 234 lots are catalogued. For the first time in Australia online bidding will be used and buyers can still register by visiting www.inglis.com.au
